Zovirax

Zovirax belongs to a class of antiviral drugs and it is used to make slow the growth and spread of the herpes virus so that the body can fight off the infection. The medication is not intended to cure herpes, but its function is to lessen the symptoms of infection. The medication is used in the treatment of infections which are caused by herpes viruses. Illnesses triggered by herpes virus include genital herpes, cold sores, shingles and chicken pox. The medication can also be used for other purposes which are not listed here.

You avoid taking the medication if you have allergic reactions to Zovirax or valacyclovir. Inform your doctor in advance if you have kidney disease. In this case, you may need special dosage or you have to perform special tests during the treatment with the medication. The medication belongs to FDA pregnancy category B, which is not considered harmful for unborn baby. But if you are pregnant or planning to be pregnant, then inform your doctor. It also passes in the milk of nursing mother and cause harm to a nursing baby, so if you are breast-feeding a baby, then you should not use the medication without the consent of your doctor.



Take the medication as prescribed to you by your doctor and avoid taking the medication in larger amount. You should start the treatment with Zovirax as soon as you feel symptoms. Take each dose with one glass of water and use much water to keep your kidney working properly. You can take the medication with or without food, but with food will decrease stomach upset. If you are using the liquid form of medication then first shake it well before using and get a measuring spoon to take the correct dose of the medication. Your symptoms will improve with time, but the infection is completely treated will full dosage.

If you miss a dose then take it as soon as possible and if the time is near to take the next scheduled dose then skip the missed dose and follow your regular scheduled dose and avoid taking double doses at the same time. If you suspect overdose then get emergency medical help. The symptoms of overdose are seizure, hallucinations, and urinating less than usual.

You should get emergency medical help if you feel any signs of allergic reactions like hives, difficulty in breathing, swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat. You can experience the following serious side effects like urinating less than usual or not at all, easy bruising or bleeding, and unusual weakness. In such conditions, you need to stop taking the medication and contact with your doctor immediately. If you experience the following less serious side effects then keep continuing your medication because they mostly occur with the use of medication. These include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite, stomach pain, and headache, feeling light-headed, and swelling in your hands or feet. You can experience some other side effects which are not listed above. If they persist or they become bothersome, then contact with your doctor.
