Zovia

Zovia is used to prevent pregnancy. It is a combination of estrogen/progestin and it functions to prevent the release of eggs from ovaries and in this way there is no chance of pregnancy. The medication can be used for other purposes which are not discussed here.

Tell your doctor if you have allergic reactions to Zovia or to any of its ingredient, if you are pregnant or planning to be pregnant, you have blood clots in your lungs, legs or eyes, you have been a victim of heart attack, chest pain, or stroke, if you have breast cancer or cancer of lining of the uterus, cervix, or vagina or you have got vaginal bleeding, you have lever tumor, or active liver disease, history of yellowing of eye or skin during pregnancy or you have used birth control, or if you have headaches with neurological symptoms.

If you have decided to take the medication then there are some medical conditions, about which you should inform your doctor. These conditions are: if you want to be pregnant or you are breast-feeding a baby, if you are using any prescription or nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, you have allergic reactions to medicines, foods, or other substance, you have high blood pressure, high cholesterol, triglycerides, or calcium level, have pancreatitis or gallbladder problems or if you are obese, if you have breast nodules, fibrocystic disease of the breast, abnormal breast x-ray or mammogram, endometriosis or endometrial carcinomas, uterine fibroids, or irregular menstrual periods, if you have diabetes, headaches, migraine headaches, epilepsy, have a history of depression, or if you heavy smoke. There are some drugs which can interact with Zovia. If you are using any drugs then inform your doctor. These include azoles antifungals, aprepitant, basentan, HIV protease inhibitors, hydantoins, modafinil, and nevirapine, etc. These medicines can decrease the effectiveness of the medication.



Take the medication as prescribed to you by your doctor and follow the instructions on the label. If you cannot understand it, then take help from your pharmacist. You can take the medication with food or without food. You should take the medication on daily basis in order to get maximum benefit and take all of the pills in the pack. If you miss one dose in the first three weeks then take it as soon as you remember. If you miss two doses then take the two tablets as you remember and take two pills on the next day and follow your regular schedule of doses. You also need to use a backup method of birth control.

You should avoid using alcohol with Zovia or other medication, because it can increase some of side effects of Zovia like dizziness or changes in vision and you should also avoid performing such duties which require high alertness. If there is no period during the week of inactive pills, then you need to contact with your doctor immediately. Some dark patches can appear on the skin, and its exposure to sun can increase its darkness. In such case, you should use sunscreen or protective clothing when you are out in the sun.
