Zomig

Zomig is used to control vascular headaches like migraines. The medication is not used to prevent migraine, but it is given to treat a migraine that is already occurring. Its function is to cause narrowing of blood vessels around the brain and it also blocks the release of substances that contribute headache pain, nausea, sensitivity to light and sound, and other migraine symptoms. The medication can also be used for some other purposes that are not listed above.

Inform your doctor if you have already taken monoamine oxidase inhibitor like isocarboxazid, tranylcypromine, or phenelzine in the last 14 days. If you have taken ergot-based medication with in last 24 hours, like methysergide, ergotamine, or dihydroergotamine mesylate, then inform your doctor. If you have the following medical conditions like hemiplegic migraine headache, had a heart attack, angina, irregular heartbeats, another type of heart disease, have a history of stroke or transient ischemic attack, then should you avoid taking the medication.

Inform your doctor if you have heart disease like high blood pressure, history of heart disease, high cholesterol, overweight, diabetes, smoke, cigarettes, postmenopausal, liver disease, kidney disease, seizures or epilepsy. In these conditions, you are unable to take the medication, and you may need dosage adjustment or special monitoring during the treatment. The medication belongs to FDA pregnancy category C which says that it is not known whether it is harmful to an unborn baby or not, but if you are pregnant or could become pregnant during the treatment then tell your doctor. It is not known whether the medication passes into milk of nursing mother not, so if you are breast-feeding a baby then tell your doctor before taking the medication.



Take the medication as prescribed to you by your doctor, and if it is difficult to understand the instructions then you can take help from your pharmacist. You should start the medication when you feel symptoms of migraine. You need to take one or half of the tablet on daily basis with one glass of water. If you feel that there is no sign of betterment then contact with your doctor. Place the medication at room temperature and away from heat and moisture.

You can use the medication if migraine occurs. Missing a dose is not a problem because you can use the medication as needed. If you suspect overdose then contact with your doctor immediately and get emergency medical help. While taking the medication, you should avoid driving, operating machinery, or performing other activities that require high alertness.

There are some serious side effects of the medication. If they occur then you need to stop medication and get emergency medical help. These include difficulty in breathing, closing of the throat, swelling of your lips, tongue, or face, hives, severe chest pain, irregular heartbeats, chest, neck or jaw pain, tightness, or heaviness, sudden or severe stomach pain, problems seeing, unusual weakness or numbness. There are some less serious side effects which occur more likely, but you should continue your medication. These include dry mouth, unusual taste in the month, nausea, muscle tiredness or weakness, tightness, heaviness, pressure on a body part, drowsiness, dizziness, tingling, tightness, warmth, or heaviness in a body part.
