Zofran
Zofran
Zofran is used to prevent nausea and vomiting caused by surgery or the medicines which are used to treat cancer. The medication blocks the actions of chemicals in the body that can cause nausea and vomiting. The medication can also be used for some other purposes that are not listed here.You should avoid taking the medication if you have allergic reactions to Zofran or to similar medicines like dolasetron, granisetron, and palonosetron. Inform your doctor if you have liver disease, history of allergic reaction to any medicine, or family history of long QT syndrome. In these conditions, you cannot take the medication or you may need dosage adjustment or you have to carry out special tests during the treatment. The medication belongs to FDA pregnancy category B, which is not expected to cause harm to an unborn baby. Inform your doctor in advance, if you are pregnant or could be pregnant during the medication. The medication can pass into milk of nursing mother and may be harmful to nursing baby, so if you are breast-feeding a baby then you should not use the medication without the consent of your doctor.
Take the medication as prescribed to you by your doctor and avoid taking the medication in larger amount and go on the directions of prescription label. You can take the medication with food or without food. Take each dose of the medication with one full glass of water. When you open the package and peel back the foil from the tablet blister, try to take it as soon as possible. With your dry hand, remove the tablet and put it in your mouth and don’t try to swallow the tablet and let it to be dissolved in your mouth. If you have a liquid form of the medication then you need to have a measuring spoon to take the correct dose. Place the medication at room temperature and away from heat and moisture.
If you miss a does and take it as soon as you remember and if it is almost the time of taking next scheduled dose then skip the missed dose and go back to your scheduled dose and avoid taking double at the same time. If you suspect overdose then you need to get emergency medical help. The symptoms of overdose include feeling light-headed or fainting, sudden loss of vision, and severe constipation. You should avoid the activities in which you require high alertness.
If you feel any signs of allergic reactions like hives, difficulty in breathing, swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat, then you need to get emergency medical help. There are some serious side effects. If they occur, then contact with your doctor immediately. These include fever, anxiety, agitation, shivering, urinating less then usual, blurred vision, or temporary blindness. There are some less serious side effects which occur more likely like diarrhea, constipation, weakness or tired feeling, headache, dizziness, or drowsiness. You can experience other side effects which are not listed above. If they seem usual or become bothersome then contact with your doctor.
