Xopenex
Xopenex is used in the treatment of reversible obstructive airway conditions like asthma, bronchitis, and emphysema. It is a bronchodilator and its function is to relax muscles in the airways in order to improve breathing. The medication can be used for other purposes than those that are listed above.Inform your doctor if you have heart disease, irregular heartbeat, high blood pressure, seizure disorder, diabetes, or overactive thyroid. In these conditions, you cannot take the medication or you need dosage adjustment or you have to carry out special tests during the treatment. The medication belongs to FDA pregnancy category C which means that it is not known whether the medication is harmful to an unborn baby or not. So if you are pregnant or planning to be pregnant then tell your doctor before taking the medication. It is not known that the mediation appears in the milk of nursing mother, but you should consult with your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby. The medication should not be given to children younger than 6 years of age.
Take the medication exactly as prescribed to you by your doctor and if you cannot understand the instructions on the label then get help from your pharmacist. If you are using other steroid inhaler then first use your Xopenex nebulization solution to open up your airways. Use the medication frequently and tell your doctor if you need more dose than usual. Place the medication in the protective foil pouch at room temperature and away from light and excessive heat. Once you open the foil pouch then vials should be used within two weeks. Discard the medication if it becomes colorless.
If you miss a dose then take it as soon as you remember and if the time is near to take the next scheduled dose then skip the missed dose and follow your regular scheduled dose and avoid taking double doses at the same time. If you suspect overdose then get emergency medical help. The symptoms of overdose include angina or chest pain, irregular heartbeats, or a fluttering heart, seizures, tremor, nervousness, weakness, headache, dry mouth, dizziness, sleeplessness, nausea and vomiting. You should keep away from the conditions which can aggravate your condition, like exercising in cold, dry air, smoking, breathing in dust, and exposure to allergens like pet fur.
If you experience the following side effects like signs of allergic reactions which include difficulty in breathing, closing of your throat, swelling of your lips, tongue, or face, or hives, and worsening of respiratory symptoms like shortness of breath, wheezing, chest pain or irregular heartbeats, then you need to stop the medication and contact with doctor immediately in order to get medical help. There are other less serious side effects which occur more likely with the use of medication, like dizziness, tremor or nervousness, anxiety, headache, cough or runny nose, upset stomach, and leg cramps. You can also experience other side effects which are not listed above. If they seem unusual or they become bothersome, then contact with your doctor immediately.
