Xenical
Xenical is used for the loss of weight. It blocks some of fat which you eat from being absorbed by your body. It can be used in the management of obesity which includes weight loss and weight maintenance and you have to adopt diet of low calorie. The medication can be used for other purposes than those are listed above.If you are victim of gallbladder problems or chronic malabsorption syndrome then you cannot take the medication. Inform your doctor in advance if you have diabetes, have a history of kidney stones, anorexia or bulimia, using medicines for weight loss, or taking cyclosporine, because you cannot use the medication in such conditions. You need dosage adjustment or require special monitoring during the treatment. The medication belongs to FDA pregnancy category B which means that the medication is harmful to an unborn baby, so if you are pregnant or planning to be pregnant then tell your doctor. It is unknown that the medication appears in the milk of nursing mother or not, but if you are breast-feeding a baby then tell your doctor before taking the medication.
Take the medication exactly as prescribed to you by your doctor and for more information, you can ask from your pharmacist. Take each dose with water. You can take the medication with each main meal which contains fat. You should adopt diet for yourself which contain no more than 30% calories. You should evenly divide your diet into fat, carbohydrates and protein. If you miss a meal then you should skip your dose. If your meal contains no fat then there is no risk of side effects of Xenical. If your meal contains more fat then the risk of side effects will be increased. It is possible that your body absorption of some fat-soluble vitamins gets decreased, so you need to use some vitamins supplements that contain vitamins D, E, K and beta-carotene. You should take your vitamin supplement once a day, at least two hours before or after a dose of Xenical. Place the medication at room temperature and away from heat and moisture.
If you miss a dose then take it up to one hour after a meal and if more than one hour has passed then skip the missed dose and follow your regular scheduled dose. Avoid taking double doses at the same time and if you miss a meal or there is no fat in the meal then you should avoid taking the medication. If you suspect overdose then get emergency medical help.
If you experience some allergic reactions like shortness of breath, closing of throat, swelling of your lips, tongue, or face or hives, then stop taking the medication and get emergency medical help. Other less serious side effects which occur more likely include oily spotting, gas with discharge, urgent need to go to bathroom, oily or fatty stools, increased no of bowel movements, orange or brown colored oil in your stool. In the above conditions, you should continue the medications.
