Xalatan

Xalatan is used to control glaucoma and high pressure in the eye. It reduces pressure in the eye by increasing the amount of fluid that drain from the eye. You can use the medication for other purposes which are not listed above.

If you have decided to take the medication then tell your doctor. If you have history of any medical condition, you require dosage management or you have to carry out special tests during the treatment with Xalatan. The medication belongs to FDA pregnancy category C which means that it is unknown whether the medication can be harmful to an unborn baby or not. If you are pregnant or could be pregnant during the treatment then inform your doctor. It is also not known that the medication passes into the milk of nursing mother or not, but you should not use the medication without the consent of your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby.

Take the medication as prescribed to you by your doctor and if you cannot understand the instruction, then get help from your pharmacist. You can take Xalatan once a day and use one drop in the affected eye at the evening time. Use the medication regularly and make it your routine. You should wash your hands after and before applying the medication. The medication contains a preservative, so you should not use contact lenses at the time of applying the medication, but you can insert the lenses after 15 minutes of applying the medication. Place the medication in the refrigerator before the bottle is opened and once you open it then store it at room temperature up to temperature of 77 degrees Fahrenheit for maximum 6 weeks.



If you miss a dose then apply it as soon as you remember and if the time is near to apply the next scheduled dose then skip the missed dose and go back to your regular scheduled dose. Avoid taking double doses at the same time. If you suspect overdose then get emergency medical help from you doctor. The symptoms of overdose include burning, irritation and redness of the eyes. You should not touch the dropper to any surface including eye or hands, because it is sterile and if it becomes contaminated then it can cause infection in the eye.

If you experience the following side effects then contact your doctor immediately. These include itching, redness, or discharge from the eyes. The less serious side effects which occur likely, if use the medication like burning, stinging, itching, redness, blurred vision, dry eye, tearing, or eyelid irritation, but you should continue you medication and talk with your doctor. You can also experience other side effects which are not listed above. If it seems unusual then contact your doctor.

There are certain drugs which can interact with Xalatan, so you should tell your doctor if you are taking other medications. Use Xalatan for at least 5 minutes before or after applying other medication. You can get more information from your pharmacist or your health professional.
