Wellbutrin
Wellbutrin is an antidepressant medication and it is used in the treatment of major depressive disorder and seasonal affective disorder. The medication can also be used for some other purposes which are not listed above.You should avoid taking Wellbutrin, if you have used a monoamine oxidase inhibitor like isocarboxazid, phenelzine, rasagiline, selegiline, or tranylcypromine in the last 14 days. There are some medical conditions in which you should avoid taking the medication like epilepsy or seizure disorder, an eating disorder like anorexia or bulimia, if you are taking 2nd form of bupropion, or if you have suddenly stopped using alcohol or sedatives.
Inform your doctor if you have the following conditions, like head injury, brain or spinal cord tumor, heart disease, high blood pressure, kidney disease, liver disease, bipolar disorder, diabetes, steroids, theophylline, using alcohol, sedatives, narcotic pain medicines, diet pills, or street drugs. In the above conditions, you could not use the medication or you have to carry out special tests during the treatment or manage dosage adjustment. There are certain drugs with which if you take Wellbutrin, then it can cause seizures, so you should tell your doctor before using the medication. You can experience high degree of suicidal thoughts or behavior at the start of the medication, especially when you are less than 18 years of age. In this condition, you need to visit your doctor in order to monitor for the worse symptoms of depression. Your family should notice your behavior. If changes occur, inform your doctor and you should keep visiting your doctor for at least 12 weeks during the treatment.
The medication belongs to FDA category C which can be harmful to an unborn baby. If you are pregnant or could be pregnant during the treatment then inform your doctor. The medication appears in the milk of nursing mother and can cause harm to the nursing baby. So before taking the medication, if you are breast-feeding a baby then tell your doctor.
Take the medication as prescribed to you by your doctor and avoid taking the medication in larger amount. The medication can be taken with or without food and take each dose with water. You should not crush or break an extended-release of tablets as it is formulated to swallow it whole, so that the tablet can release the drug slowly in the body. If you have to stop the medication then first consult with your doctor. If you will stop to take the medication suddenly then you can get serious consequences. Place the medication at room temperature and away from heat and moisture.
You can experience the following side effects which are not serious and they can occur likely with taking the medication. It include headache, migraine, sleep problems, nausea, vomiting, constipation, dry mouth, confusion, dizziness, agitation, tremors, appetite changes, weight loss or gain, loss of interest in sex, mild itching or skin rash, and increased sweating.
