Vioxx

Vioxx belongs to a class of medication, known as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. It is used to treat pain, inflammation, and stiffness, which are caused by osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and certain forms of juvenile rheumatoid arthritis. It is used to treat pain in adults, migraines, and menstrual pain. Its function is to reduce the substances which cause inflammation, pain, and fever in the body. The medication can be used for other purposes that are not listed above.

Don’t use the medication without the consent of your doctor. If you have got asthma, hives, or an allergic reaction after taking aspirin or another NSAID like ibuprofen, naproxen, ketoprofen, diclefenac, diflunisal, etodolac, fenoprofen, flurbiprofen, indomethacin, ketorolac, nabumetone, oxaprozin, piroxicam, sulindac, tolmetin, celecoxib, valdocoxib, or meloxicam, then first inform your doctor. Inform your doctor if you smoke, drink alcohol, or if you have asthma, congestive heart failure, heart disease, high blood pressure, kidney disease, ever had ulcer or bleeding in the stomach, have fluid retention, have a coagulation disorder, or taking other steroid medicines like prednisone, methylprednisolone, prednisolone. In the above conditions, you cannot take the medication or you have to carry out special tests or manage a dosage adjustment during the treatment.



The medication belongs to FDA pregnancy category C which means that it is unknown that whether the medication may be harmful to an unborn baby or not, so you should avoid taking the medication late in pregnancy, because it can produce certain effect on the formation of baby's heart. If you are pregnant or planning to be pregnant then discuss with your doctor. It is unknown whether the medication passes into the milk of nursing mother or not, but you should talk with your doctor before taking the medication if you are breast-feeding a baby. If your age is more than 65 years then you are more likely to experience side effects from the medication.

Take the medication as prescribed to you by your doctor and if you cannot understand the instruction on the label then you should get help from the pharmacist. Take each dose of the medication with a glass of water. If you have Vioxx suspension then you should shake it before taking it, and get a measuring spoon to take a correct dose. You can take the medication with food or milk. Place the medication at room temperature and away from heat and moisture.

If you miss a dose then take it as soon as you remember, and if the time is near to take the next dose then skip the missed dose and go back to regular scheduled dose. Don’t try to take double doses at the same time. If you suspect overdose then get emergency medical help.

If you experience abdominal pain, tenderness, discomfort, nausea, blood in your vomit, black, tarry stools, unusual weight gain, swelling or water retention, fatigue or lethargy, skin rash, itching, yellowing of your skin or eyes, flu-like symptoms, or unusual bruising or bleeding then tell your doctor immediately. There are some serious side effects, if you experience them, you should stop the medication and get emergency medical help.
