Vasotec

Vasotec belongs to a class of drugs, known as ACE inhibitors while ACE is the abbreviation of angiotensin converting enzyme. Vasotec is used to treat high blood pressure, congestive heart failure, and kidney problems caused by diabetes. It is used to get the condition after heart attack better. Doctors also prescribe the medication for other purposes that are not listed above.

You should avoid taking Vasotec, if you are allergic to Vasotec or to any other ACE inhibitor like benazopril, captopril, fosinopril, lisinopril, moexipril, perindopril, quinapril, ramipril or trandolapril. Before taking Vasotec, you should tell your doctor if you have allergic reactions to any other drugs or you have been a victim of kidney disease, heart disease or congestive heart failure, diabetes, liver disease, connective tissue disease like Marfan syndrome, Sjogren's syndrome, lupus, scleroderma, or rheumatoid arthritis. In these conditions, you cannot take the medication or you have to carry out special tests or you need special dosage adjustment. The medication belongs to FDA pregnancy category D which means that it can cause birth defects in newborn, so if you are pregnant or planning to be pregnant then inform your doctor and take an effective form of birth control. The medication appears in the milk of nursing mother and can harm a nursing baby, so if you are breast-feeding a baby then tell your doctor before taking the medication.



Take the medication according to the prescription of your doctor and avoid taking the medication in larger amount and take it for longer time than recommended to you by your doctor. During the treatment, you should visit your doctor regularly and it may be possible that the doctor may change the amount of dose in order to get effective result. Take each dose of the medication with water. You can take Vasotec with or without food. If you go through vomiting, diarrhea or heavy sweating during the treatment with Vasotec, then you are dehydrated and it can lead low pressure, electrolyte disorders, or kidney failure. You should drink more and more water to avoid any severe condition. During the treatment, you should check your blood pressure on regular basis and also carry out tests of kidney or liver function. If you need any type of surgery then tell your doctor because your doctor may advice you to stop taking the medication for short time. Keep the medication at room temperature and away from heat and moisture.

If you miss a dose then take it as soon as you remember and if the time is near to take next scheduled dose then skip the missed dose and go back to your regular scheduled dose. If you suspect overdose then get emergency medical help. The symptoms of overdose include feeling dizziness, light headed, or fainting. If you experience any signs of the allergic reactions then get emergency medical help. These allergic reactions include hives, severe stomach pain, difficulty breathing, and swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat. You can also experience some serious side effects then you need you contact with your doctor immediately.
