Vaniqa
The general name of Vaniqa is eflornithine cream. It is used to make slow the growth of unwanted facial hair in women. The medication is an enzyme inhibitor and it functions to block the enzyme that is necessary for hair to grow.If you are allergic to any ingredient present in Vaniqa cream then tell your doctor before taking the medication. There are some medical conditions in which the medication can interact with them. These conditions are: if you are pregnant or planning to be pregnant, if you are breast-feeding a baby, if you are using any prescription or nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement, if you have allergies to medicines, foods, or other substances, if you have scraped or broken skin, or sores on the affected area. If you are taking other drugs then you need to inform your doctor.
Apply the cream exactly as directed to you by your doctor and you can get help from the label instruction. Vaniqa cream comes with a patient leaflet which has more information for the patient. If you cannot understand the instructions, then take help from your pharmacist. Make a thin layer of the cream on the affected area evenly and wait for at least four hours, and then wash your face. If you have to apply other cosmetics or sunscreens then wait until the Vaniqa cream is dried. If you miss a dose then it is not a problem. Skip the missed dose and go back to your regular scheduled dose.
You can use the Vaniqa cream externally only and avoid contact with vaginal area, eyes, nose, or mouth. The medication is not for removing hair, and you should follow your routine procedure of removing the hairs. You should use the medication for at least 4 to 8 weeks and if your symptoms do not get improved then contact with your doctor. You should avoid giving the cream to persons younger than 12 years of age.
You can experience the side effects of the medication, and if these side effects persist or they become bothersome then contact with your doctor. The common side effects include redness, skin tingling, temporary, stinging or burning. There are some serious side effects. If you experience any symptoms of them then get emergency medical help. It include rash, difficulty in breathing, tightness in the chest, swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue, bleeding, or irritation of the skin. You can also experience some other side effects than those that are listed above, but if they seem unusual then tell your doctor. Vaniqa can be very dangerous if it is swallowed. The symptoms of overdose include dizziness, facial swelling, hair loss, headache, hearing loss, loss of appetite, seizures, unusual bruising or bleeding, upset stomach, and weakness.
