Ultram

Ultram is used for the relief of pain, and it is very effective to treat moderate to severe pain. The medication also comes with extended-release form, which is used to treat moderate to severe chronic pain. Doctors also prescribe the medication for some other purposes that are not listed above.

You should avoid taking the medication if you have a history of drugs or alcohol. If you have drunk then don’t take Ultram. If you have used the following medication recently, then you avoid the medication. These include narcotic pain medicine, medicines for depression or anxiety, sedatives or tranquilizers, medicines used for mental illness, and street drugs. In the presence of following conditions, your risk of seizures may be increased. These include history of drug or alcohol addiction, history of head injury, metabolic disorder, history of epilepsy or other seizure disorder.

Inform your doctor if you are allergic to any drugs or you have the following medical conditions: kidney disease, liver disease, stomach disorder, history of depression, mental illness, or suicide attempt. In these conditions, you cannot take the medication or you have to carry out special tests during the treatment. The medication comes in FDA category C which shows that it is harmful to unborn baby, and can create severe or fatal side effects for a newborn. Therefore if you are pregnant or planning to be pregnant then inform your doctor. The medication appears in the milk of nursing mother and can cause harm to a nursing baby, so if you are breast-feeding a baby then tell your doctor. Without the consent of your doctor, you should not use the medication. The medication should not be given to children under the age of 16 years.



Take the medication as prescribed to you by your doctor and avoid taking the medication in larger amount. You should not use the medication longer than recommended to you by your doctor. Take each dose of the medication with water. You should not crush the extended-release form of tablet, because it is specially formulated to release the drugs slowly. If you break the tablet then you can get serious consequences. Tell your doctor if the medication is not working well and don’t try to change your dose without consent of your doctor. If you have to stop the medication then first you should reduce the amount dose gradually. If you suddenly stop the medication then you can get serious consequence like anxiety, sweating, diarrhea, tremors, chills, hallucinations, trouble sleeping problems etc. place the medication at room temperature.

If you miss a dose then take it as soon as you remember. If the time is near to take the next scheduled dose then skip the missed dose and go back to the regular schedule of doses. You should avoid taking double doses at the same time. If you suspect overdose then get emergency medical help. The symptoms of overdose are drowsiness, shallow breathing, slow heartbeat, extreme weakness, cold or clammy skin, feeling light-headed, fainting, or coma.
