Triphasil
The general name of Triphasil is ethinyl estradiol and levonorgestrel. The medication contains hormones that function to prevent ovulation. The medication makes changes to the cervical mucous and uterine lining, and makes it harder for sperm to reach the uterus and it is difficult for a fertilized egg to attach to the uterus. The medication is used to prevent pregnancy. The medication can also be used for other purposes that are not listed above.The women who are pregnant or planning to be pregnant should avoid taking the medication because the medication can cause birth defects. If you have recently given birth to a baby then wait for four weeks before taking the birth control pills. You should avoid taking the medication if you have a history of stroke or blood clot, circulation problems, hormone related cancer like breast or uterine cancer, abnormal vaginal bleeding, liver disease or liver cancer, severe migraine headaches, heart valve disorder, severe blood pressure, or history of jaundice. You should inform your doctor if you have high blood pressure, heart disease, congestive heart failure, angina, a history of heart attack, history of depression, high cholesterol, gallbladder disease, diabetes, history of irregular heartbeats, seizures, history of fibrocystic breast disease, lumps, nodules, an abnormal mammogram, uterine fibroid tumors, varicose veins, or tuberculosis. In the above conditions, you cannot take the medication or you have to do special tests during the treatment. The hormones in birth control pills can appear in the milk of nursing mother and can cause harm to fetus and it is possible that it may slow down the production of breast milk, so those women who are breast-feeding a baby should keep away from the medication.
Take the medication according to the prescription of your doctor and avoid taking larger amount of the medication. You should also use back-up birth control like condoms or a spermicide. The medication comes with 28-days of pills with seven remainder pills in order to keep you on your regular cycle. You should take each pill everyday but gap should be not more than 24 hours and if you leave the medication then you may get pregnant. You can leave the medication for short time if you need any type surgery or medical tests. While taking the medication, you should make regular visits with your doctor. Keep the medication at room temperature and away from heat and moisture.
Don’t try to miss a dose because you may get pregnant and if you miss one active pill then take two pills on the next day if you remember. If you experience any overdose then get medical help. Symptoms of overdose include nausea, vomiting, and vaginal bleeding. If you are taking the medication then you should avoid smoking because it can increase the risk of clots and strokes. If you have any of the signs of allergic reactions like hives, difficulty in breathing, swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat, then you need to get emergency medical help.
