Tramadol

Tramadol is used to relieve moderate to severe pain. Tramadol extended release is used in the treatment of severe chronic pain. Doctors may also prescribe the medication for some other purposes that are not listed above. Tramadol comes as a tablet and an extended-release tablet, and it is taken by mouth.

You can take the regular tablet with or without food. You should take the extended-release tablet one time a day and always at the same time. If once you take the medication with food then always take it with food regularly, and if you take the medication without food then always take it without food on the regular basis. You should follow the instructions of your doctor about the doses of the medication. When you start to take the medication then start with low dose and then gradually increase the amount of dose. If you are taking extended-release tablet then take it as a whole and don’t try to crush or break the tablet, because it is formulated to release the drug slowly in the body, and if you crush or break the tablet then the whole drug would be released at the same time.

You should tell your doctor if you have a history of addiction to drugs or alcohol or you have recently used the following the alcohol, narcotic pain medicine, medicines for depression or anxiety, sedatives or tranquilizers, medicines for mental illness, or street drugs. In the above conditions, you cannot take Tramadol. Seizures have been reported in some patients while using Tramadol. The risk of seizures will be higher if you have the following medical conditions. These medical conditions include history of drug or alcohol addiction, history of epilepsy or other seizures disorder, a metabolic disorder, and history of head injury. You need to inform your doctor if you are having one of the above conditions.



If you have allergic reactions to any drugs or you are victim of kidney disease, stomach disorder, liver disorder, depression, mental illness, or suicide attempt, then you are unable to take Tramadol, and if it is essential then you need special dosage adjustment or special tests should be carried out during the treatment with Tramadol. The medication belongs to FDA pregnancy category C which can cause defects to unborn baby therefore those women who are pregnant or planning to be pregnant should avoid taking the medication. The medication appears in the milk of nursing mother, so if you are breast-feeding a baby then tell you doctor before using the medication.

If you experience the symptoms of allergic reactions then get emergency medical help. These allergic reactions include difficulty in breathing, and swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat. There are some serious side effects like seizure, red, blistering, peeling skin rash, shallow breathing, and weak pulse. If you experience these side effects, then stop the medication and contact with your doctor. The less serious side effects include dizziness, vomiting, constipation, drowsiness, weakness, blurred vision, flushing, and sleeping problems.
