Temazepam
Temazepam
Temazepam comes in a class of drugs called benzodiazepines and it is used to affect the chemicals in the brain that may become unbalanced and cause sleeping problems. It is used to avoid the condition of insomnia, like trouble falling or staying asleep. Doctors also prescribe the medication for some other purposes which are not discussed here.You should avoid the medication if you are allergic to Temazepam or to other benzodiazepines like alprazolam, chlordiazepoxide, clorazepate, diazepam, lorazepam, and triazolam. Tell your doctor if you have certain medical conditions, like asthma, emphysema, bronchitis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder, other breathing problems, kidney or liver disease, myasthenia gravis, glaucoma, history of depression or suicidal thoughts or behavior, a history of drug or alcohol addiction. In the above medical conditions, you are unable to use the medication or you have to carry out special tests during the treatment with Temazepam. The medication is harmful to an unborn baby so those women who are pregnant or planning to be pregnant should avoid taking the medication. You should take birth control pills during the treatment with Temazepam. If you are breast-feeding a baby then you should avoid taking the medication because the medication passes into milk of nursing mother.
Take the medication as prescribed to you by your doctor and avoid taking the medication in larger amount. You should take the medication before sleeping because it can induce you to sleep. You should take the medication for short time, for 7 to 10 nights. If you’ll use the medication for longer time and then stop it, then it is possible that the symptoms of insomnia may return. You should reduce your dose with the time before stopping it completely. Place the medication at room temperature and away from heat and moisture.
You should go on regular schedule of doses. If you miss a dose then you can take it as needed, and you have to take the medication when you have time to sleep. If you experience overdose then get medical help because overdose of Temazepam can be fatal, especially if you are taking alcohol. The symptoms of overdose include extreme drowsiness, feeling light-headed, tremors, slow heartbeat, shallow breathing, fainting, seizure, coma, confusion, muscles weakness, and slurred speech. You should avoid drinking alcohol if you are taking Temazepam, because it can increase the side effects of the medication and sometimes it may prove fatal. When you take the medication, you should avoid all the activities which need high alertness.
You can experience severe side effects of Temazepam and if they occur then stop medication and get emergency medical help. These side effects include hives, difficulty in breathing, and swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat. You can also experience the side effects like weak or shallow breathing, hallucination, thoughts of suicide, pale skin, easy bruising or bleeding, unusual weakness, problems with urination, confusion, slurred speech, fast heartbeats, fever, chills, body aches, flu symptoms, nausea, stomach pain, low fever, dark urine, loss of appetite, jaundice, agitation, and aggression. If you experience these symptoms, then you need to contact with your doctor immediately.
