Tamiflu
Tamiflu comes in a class of medicines which is known as antiviral, and it is used to treat the infections caused by viruses. It is also used in the treatment of infections caused by flu virus. It works immediately by reducing flu symptoms like weakness, headache, fever, cough and sore throat in one day. Tamiflu is antiviral drug, known as neuraminidase inhibitors and as the virus of flu spread in the body then it create copies of itself and spreads from cell to cell and they fight against virus by preventing the release of new copies from infected cells.Before taking the medication, you should inform your doctor if you have ever got allergic reaction to Tamiflu and any other substances like foods, preservatives etc. It is not known whether it is harmful to pregnant women but experiments on animals have shown that it can cause problems so those women who are pregnant or planning to be pregnant should consult with their doctor. It is not known whether it passes into milk of nursing mother or not, but you should tell your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby.
Tamiflu can interact with other drugs so you should inform the doctor if you are taking other medication like probenecid. If you have other medical conditions like kidney disease, heart disease, illnesses caused by viruses, liver disease, lung disease, then you tell your doctor, because in the above conditions the use of the medication can be affected.
Take the medication as prescribed to you by your doctor. You can take it with meal or on empty stomach. If you take the medication with food then it will lessen the stomach upset. Take the medication for longer time than prescription to clear up the infection completely. You should start the treatment with Tamiflu within two days of being exposed to flu. You should take the medication for at least 10 days. The oral form of Tamiflu should be taken with mouth. For taking the correct dose, you should get a measuring spoon. If you have any problem related to the usage of the medication then you can ask from your pharmacist.
For better effects, use the medication on daily basis and if you miss a dose then take it as soon as you get remembered and if the time is near to take the next schedule dose then skip the missed dose and follow your regular schedule of doses. Place the medication at room temperature and away from heat and moisture. Don’t let the oral form of the medication to freeze.
You may experience some unwanted side effects. If they occur then you should go for doctor and get medical help. If you experience the following serious side effects then stop to take the medication and get medical attention. These side effects include phlegm producing cough, wheezing, stomach cramps, arm or back pain, bloating, chest tightness, facial swelling, shortness of breath, tender glands of jaw and throat, diarrhea, unusual weight loss, and increased thirst.
