Sinemet
Sinemet is used to treat idiopathic Parkinson disease. It includes two substances, levodopa and carbidopa. If you want to use the medication and if you are allergic to Sinemet or any of its ingredients, or if you are allergic to other substance like foods, preservatives, or dyes, then first tell your doctor. If you are pregnant or want to be pregnant then consult with your doctor before taking the medication. Sinemet passes into milk of nursing mother and can cause serious side effects to the nursing baby.There are certain medicines which can interact with Sinemet. These include cocaine, haloperidol, phenothiazine, chlorpromazine, fluphenazine, mesoridazine, perphenazine thioxanthenes, monoamine oxidase inhibitor, pyridoxine, and selegiline. You should tell your doctor if you want to use the medication in these conditions. There are certain medical conditions in which you can get serious consequences if you use the medication. These medical conditions include diabetes mellitus, emphysema, asthma, bronchitis, other chronic lung disease, heart or blood vessel disease, hormone problems, melanoma, mental illness, kidney disease, seizures disorder, and stomach ulcer.
If you are taking the medication then you should avoid taking high protein diets and follow the instruction of your doctor. Pyridoxine is a substance to reduce the effect of levodopa. Pyridoxine is found in large amount in some foods like bananas, egg yolks, lima beans, meats, peanuts and whole grain cereals. You have to manage specific amount of these foods in your diet while taking the medication. At the beginning, the medication should be taken with meal in order to lessen the stomach distresses. When your body accustoms to the medication, then you can take the medication with empty stomach in order to get better effects. You should swallow the medication as a whole. If you are going to stop to take the medication then first consult with your doctor.
If you miss a dose then take it as soon as you get remembered and if it is the time to take next scheduled dose, then skip the missed dose and follow your regular schedule doses and avoid taking double doses at the same time. Keep the medicine away from the children and place at room temperature and away from heat and direct sunlight. If you are going to take any type of surgery then first consult your doctor before using the medication.
You can experience some side effects which are not usual and if occur then receive medical attention. The common side effects include abnormal thinking, agitation, anxiety, clenching, cluminess, confusion, difficulty swallowing, and dizziness, excessive watering of mouth, feeling faint, feeling of discomfort, nausea, vomiting, and unusual movements of the body. There are other less severe side effects like blurred vision, difficult urination, dizziness, irregular heartbeats, loss of bladder control, mental depression, skin rash, unusual weight gain or loss. There are some rare side effects which are not considered very serious, like back or leg pain, convulsions, fever, high blood pressure, loss of appetite, swelling of foot or leg, pale skin, inappropriate penile erection, stomach pain, and vomiting etc.
