Septra DS

Septra DS belongs to the family of antibiotics and it is used to treat or prevent infections. There are some medical conditions or some medicines in which you are unable to use the medication like if you are taking astemizole, cisapride, or terfenadine. If you are taking any of these medications, then you cannot use septra DS medication. If you are taking cyclosporine, dapsone, macrolide antibiotics, methotrexate, warfarin or medicines for diabetes or seizures then you need special monitoring during the treatment. If you have other medical conditions like allergies, pregnancy, or breast-feeding then contact with your doctor.

You have to take the medication according to the direction of your doctor. You should take the medication with a glass of water and drink more water to lessen the stomach disorders. Keep the medication at room temperature and away from heat and moisture. Keep continuing your medication even if you feel better. Always try not to miss a dose and if happens then take it as soon as you get remembered and if it is almost the time to take the next schedule dose then skip the missed dose and follow your regular schedule doses.



You should avoid the medication if you have ever got allergic reaction to Septra DS and any other medicine like bactrim DS, and ganstrisin etc. You can get the severe reactions like rash, hives, breathing difficulties or dizziness. If your problems have not improved or they have become worse then tell your doctor. The medicines can make you more sensitive to sun so you should avoid more exposure to sunlight or use sunscreen or protective clothing if you are out in sun. If you experience the side effects like difficulty in breathing or tightness of chest, swelling of eyelids, face or lips then contact immediately with your doctor. If you are pregnant or want to be pregnant then inform your doctor. The medication passes into milk of nursing mother so you need to discuss with your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby.

You can experience the side effects like stomach upset, nausea, vomiting, or loss of appetite but these will go away with the time, but if they prolong then tell your doctor. During treatment with Septra DS, you can experience rare serious even fatal side effects like severe peeling skin rash, blood disorders, and liver damage. There are some side effects which if you experience then you should contact with your doctor immediately. These sidfe effects include skin rash, unusual fatigue, persistent sore throat or fever, yellowing eyes or skin, dark urine, or abdominal pain.

Septra DS can interact with other drugs and prevent the medicines from doing its job so you should tell your doctor if you are taking other drugs. Don’t try to take too much of the drug and if you experience overdose then consult with your doctor and get emergency help. The symptoms of overdose include nausea or vomiting, stomach pain, dizziness, drowsiness, confusion, depression, blood in urine and loss of consciousness. Always keep the medicine away from children and don’t share the medicine with others.
