Restoril
Restoril is used to treat the condition of insomnia, like difficulty in falling asleep, and waking up often at night. The medication belongs to a class of drugs called benzodiazepines. It is used to induce sleep and cause relaxation. Doctors also prescribe the medication for some other purposes that are not listed here. Take the medication as prescribed to you by your doctor and don’t try to take more amount of the medication because you can get serious results.You should adopt regular schedule of doses and if you miss a dose then take it if it is necessary, depending on the condition. You should keep the medication in closed tight container and far from your children and at room temperature. The side effects of Restoril could not be anticipated. If you experience any symptoms and if they become intensified, then you should inform your doctor. These side effects include dizziness, drowsiness, fatigue, headache, sluggishness, nervousness, and nausea. You should not stop to take the medication at once, because you can experience some severe side effects like abdominal and muscles cramps, convulsions, feeling of discomfort, inability to fall asleep or stay asleep, sweating, tremors, and vomiting.
Those women who are pregnant should not take Restoril. It is possible that regular use of the medication may lose its effectiveness and you are unable to get relief, but if you need relaxation then you can increase the amount of doses. When you start the treatment with Restoril, be careful because you can loose your alertness on first days of the treatment. Before taking the medication, you should tell your doctor if you have any kidney disease, liver problems or chronic disease.
While taking Restoril, you should avoid drinking alcohol because the medication can intensify the effect of alcohol. There are certain drugs which can reduce, increase or alter the effects of the medication so you need to have medical check up on regular basis. If you are taking the medication like antidepressant drugs, such as elavil, nardil, parnate, and tofranil, or antihistamines like benadryl, or barbiturates like Phenobarbital and seconal, or major tranquilizers like mellari and thorazine, or narcotic pain relievers like percocet and Demerol, or tranquilizers like valium and xanax, then don’t take this medication. Don’t take the medication if you are pregnant because it can cause birth defects. It also passes into milk of nursing mother and could affect the nursing baby, so you should inform your doctor before taking Restoril.
The recommended dose for adult is 15 milligrams before sleeping, but it depends on the condition and your doctor will prescribe you how much you have to take in your dose. The medication is not recommended for children. The doctor will prescribe you to take the amount of dose in which there is lower risk of side effects, like over sedation, confusion, lack of muscles coordination, and dizziness, but usually the starting dose is 7.5 milligrams. Don’t try to take the medication in excess, because you can get serious consequences. The symptoms of overdose include diminished reflexes, low blood pressure, labored or difficult sleepiness, coma, and confusion.
