Pulmicort

Pulmicort is a type of steroid which is used to prevent the release of substances in the body which can cause inflammation. It is used to avoid the condition of asthma attacks.

There are certain conditions in which you cannot use the medication like viral bacterial or fungal infection, because when the drugs are absorbed into your body then they may inhibit the ability of your body to resist against infections. If you are using Pulmicort at the time when asthma attack has started, then the medication will not work. The medication comes in FDA pregnancy category B which could not cause harm to unborn baby, but however you should consult with your doctor before taking the medication.

Take the medication as prescribed to you by your doctor. You should get all the information related to how the medication should be used. If you are using a bronchodilator then for better effect, Pulmicort should be used after the bronchodilator. Place the medication at room temperature and away from heat and moisture. Always try to keep the inhaler clean and dry.



If you miss a dose then take it as soon as you remember and if the time is near to take the next dose then skip the missed dose and follow your regular schedule of doses. Avoid taking larger amount of the medication. If you feel signs of overdose then you should contact with your doctor and get emergency help. You should avoid all the activities which you know that they will aggravate the symptoms. Don’t visit the area which can be a source of providing infections. Keep yourself away from the people with chicken pox, measles or any type of infection.

There are some severe side effects like difficulty in breathing, closing of your throat, swelling of your lips, tongue or face, or hives, numbness, tingling, or pain, rash, unexplained open sores or bruising, and worsening respiratory symptoms. If you experience any of these, then you should stop the medication and contact with your doctor in order to get emergency medical help. You can also experience other less severe side effects like dry mouth, nose, or throat, yeast infection in the mouth or throat, hoarseness or deepening of the voice, cough or sore throat, headache, weakness or fatigue, loss of weight, increased tanning of skin, lightheadedness or dizziness, unpleasant taste or smell, nausea or abnormal pain. In such case, you should continue your treatment and discuss with your doctor.

You should inform your doctor if you are taking other medication like oral, nasal or inhaled steroids which may increase the chance of side effects. The effects of the medication may also be increased by antifungal medicine. So you should tell your doctor if you are taking such medicines.

Pulmicort respules is used for children of 12 months to 8 years of age, to prevent asthma and it is given by nebulizer. There are no great chances of side effects from the medication but the common side effects include abdominal pain, conjunctives, cough, and viral infection.
