Provera
Provera
The general name of Provera is medroxyprogesterone acetate. Provera is a derivation of female hormone called progesterone and it is used to regulate the menstrual periods. If your menstrual periods have stopped or there is imbalance in hormone which can cause your uterus to bleed abnormally. It is used to avoid the condition of abnormal growth of the uterine lining in women. It is also used in the treatment of endometriosis, menopausal symptoms, premenstrual tension, sexual aggressive behavior in men and sleep apnea.The medication should be taken with or without meal and follow a regular schedule of doses. If you miss a dose, then you should take the medication as soon as you get remembered and if the time is near to take the next dose then skip the missed dose and follow your regular schedule of doses. The medication should be kept at room temperature.
The side effects of the medication cannot be anticipated. If it develops or it becomes intensified, then you should contact with your doctor. The common side effects include acne, anaphylaxis, blood clot in a vein, lungs, breakthrough bleeding, breast tenderness, sudden or excessive flow of milk, cervical erosion, depression, abnormal growth of hair, fever, fluid retention, hair loss, headache, hives, insomnia, itching, lack of menstruation, spotting, nausea, rash, skin discoloration, sleepiness, weight gain or loss, yellowed eyes and skin.
If you are pregnant then you should avoid taking Provera, because it is possible that it can harm your baby, so you should inform your doctor. There are certain medical conditions in which you should not take the medication. These include breast cancer or genital organs, liver disease, dead fetus in the uterus, and undiagnosed bleeding from the vagina.
Depo-Provera is progestin form of birth control and it is injected into muscles after every 11 weeks. Its effective result is obtained after 24 hours of injection. It is used to inhibit the secretion of hormones that work to stimulate ovaries in order to prevent ovulation. It makes the cervical mucus thick to give obstacles for the entrance of sperm into the uterus. If you use it continuously then you will get a positive result and here it gives no protection against STIs.
There are some conditions in which you cannot use the medication, like if you are pregnant or want to be pregnant, there is abnormal bleeding of vaginal, you have got stroke, serious liver disease, have a history of breast cancer, have blood clots in legs, lungs or eyes, or if you are allergic to Depo-Provera. There are other medical conditions like anorexia nervosa, migraine headache, depression, heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, liver disease, asthma or a seizure problem in which you should inform your doctor because it can aggravate the conditions.
You can experience some side effects which are not serious and you should continue your medication in these conditions. These side effects include menstrual irregularities, pregnancy symptoms, weight changes, depression, headache, dizziness, nervousness, and loss of hair, decrease in sex drive, leg cramps and bloating.
