Proventil
Proventil
The general name of Proventil is albuterol. Proventil is used to relax muscles in the airways and increases the flow of air to the lungs. It is used to prevent bronchospasm in those who have reversible obstructive airway disease. It is also used to avoid condition of exercise-induced bronchospasm. Doctors can also prescribe the medication for other purposes which are not listed above.Before taking the medication, you should discuss with your doctor, if you have some medical conditions. In some medical conditions, you may get some serious problems, while taking the medication. These medical conditions include heart disease, high blood pressure or congestive heart failure, heart rhythm disorder, seizure disorder like epilepsy, diabetes, and overactive thyroid. In the above conditions, you are not able to take the medication or you have to perform special tests during the treatment. The medication belongs to FDA pregnancy category C and it may be harmful to an unborn baby. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or want to be pregnant.
Take the medication according to the prescription of your doctor and avoid taking the medication in larger amount. Proventil is available with safe and effective instructions.
Follow the instructions carefully and if you need any help then ask your pharmacist. If you are using the inhaler device for the first time then spraying test sprays into the air would be better. There are some points which should be kept in mind while using the inhaler device. Shake it well before each spray then keep the mouthpiece in your mouth and close your lips and breathe in slowly. Hold it for 10 minutes and then breathe out slowly. If you want to use the inhalation more then one time then keep gap of at least one minute. Keep the inhaler clean and dry. If the medication is not working well then tell your doctor. For better results, keep using the medication on regular basis.
If you miss a dose then take it as soon as you get remembered and if the time is near to next dose then skip the missed dose and keep continuing your regular schedule of taking dose. If you feel that you have taken overdose then you should have medical help because overdose may be fatal. The symptoms of overdose include nervousness, headache, tremor, dry mouth, chest pain or heavy feeling, rapid or uneven heart rate, pain spreading to the arm or shoulder, nausea, sweating, dizziness, and seizures, etc.
If you experience the following side effects then you should stop the medication and have emergency medical help. The side effects include difficulty in breathing, swelling of your face, lips, tongue or throat. There are some severe side effects like bronchospasm, chest pain, irregular heartbeats, tremor, nervousness, and high blood pressure, then you should stop the medication and contact with your doctor. There are other less severe side effects which can occur, but you can continue your medication. These less severe side effects include headache, dizziness, nervousness, sleep problems, cough, hoarseness, sore throat, runny nose, dry mouth and throat, muscles pain, and diarrhea.
