Proscar

Proscar is used to prevent the conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone in the body. Dihydrotestosterone do the development of benign prostatic hyperstatic and hair loss. It is also used to handle the benign prostatic hyperplasia and decrease the risk of hair loss which is due to the male pattern baldness. Doctors may also prescribe the medication for some other purposes that are not listed above.

Before starting the treatment, you should discuss with your doctor because in some medical conditions, you are not able to take Proscar like liver disease. You cannot use Proscar if you have liver disease, because it can create serious results, and if you need the medication then you have to do some special tests during the treatment. The medication is specially formulated for only men, and women cannot use it. Proscar come in the FDA pregnancy category X which is probable to cause birth defects in an unborn baby, so the medication should not be given to the pregnant women because it can absorb into skin. Much exposure of the tablets may be harmful, so avoid exposing the medication for much time. It is not known whether it passes into breast milk or not, but care should be taken and nursing mother should not take the medication.



Take the Proscar as prescribed to you by your doctor and follow the instructions of your doctor. If you cannot fully understand them, then you can take help from your pharmacist. Take the dose with one full glass of water and you can also take it with or without food. To get better effects of the medication, you should use the medication on daily basis and don’t miss a dose. Your doctor may tell you to perform tests while taking Proscar. One of the tests is known as PSA (prostate-specific antigen) and the test is carried out to detect prostate cancer. Proscar reduces the amount of PSA, measured in your blood. Always keep the medication at room temperature and away from heat and moisture.

Follow you regular schedule of doses and if you miss a dose, then take the medication as soon as possible if you get remembered. If it is almost the time of next dose then skip the missed dose and follow your regular schedule of doses. Avoid taking double dose of the medication at the same time and if you experience overdose then you should get medical help. You can use any food while taking the medication unless your doctor directs you.

You should stop the medication if you experience the side effects like difficulty in breathing, closing of the throat, swelling of the lips, tongue or face. There are other less severe side effects but you should continue your treatment. These side effects include decreased libido, decreased volume of ejaculate, and trouble in getting or keeping an erection, and breast tenderness or enlargement. Some other side effects are also expected but if they prolong or become serious then you should talk with your doctor. There is no chance of interaction of Proscar with other drugs.
