Prevacid
Prevacid
Prevacid is used to treat the amount of acid produced in the stomach. It is also used in the treatment of stomach and intestinal ulcers, like erosive esophagitis and other conditions related to excessive stomach acid like zollinger-ellison syndrome. You should consult with your doctor if you want to take Prevacid, because there are certain conditions in which you are not able to take the medication like if you are allergic to any drugs or you have a type of liver disease. It belongs to FDA pregnancy category B which means that it is not harmful to unborn baby. You should tell your doctor if you are pregnant or want to be pregnant.Take the medication as prescribed to you by your doctor and avoid taking larger amounts of the medication. Take the medication with a full glass of water and for better effect, it should be taken before eating. Swallow the capsule of Prevacid whole so that it can release the drug slowly in the stomach, while crushing of it will release the whole drug at the same time. If you cannot swallow the capsule then take a spoon of pudding, yogurt, cottage cheese, strained pears and open the capsule and sprinkle the drugs on it then swallow the mixture without chewing. The other way of taking the dose can be possible by dissolving the drug of the capsule into apple juice, orange juice or tomato juice, and then stir it and drink it. For better results, take it regularly and place the medication at room temperature.
If you miss a dose then take it as soon as you remember. If the time is near to next dose then skip the missed dose and go on your regular schedule. Don’t use extra dose of the medication and if you have overdosed, then you should contact your doctor and get medical help. If you are taking sucralfate then don’t use Prevacid because sucralfate make difficult for your body to absorb Prevacid.
If you feel the following side effects then get emergency medical help, which include hives, difficult in breathing, swelling of your face, lips, tongue or throat. There are other less serious side effects expected, but you should continue your medication. These side effects include headache, nausea, stomach pain, diarrhea, or constipation. There are some drugs which can interact with Prevacid, so inform your doctor if you are taking some other drugs. The drugs which can interact with Prevacid are theophylline (like elixophyllin, respbid, slo-bid, theobid, theoclear, theo-dur, and uniphyl), digoxin, ampicillin, ketoconazole, iron or warfarin. If you are taking one of the above drugs then you cannot take Prevacid, or you have to do special tests during treatment.

It comes in 15 mg-pink or green, delayed-released capsules, in 30 mg-pink or black, delayed-released capsules. It is also available in delayed release oral suspension-white to pale brownish granules, and SoluTab delayed-release orally disintegrating tablets with white to yellowish tablets and orange or brown specks.
