Pravachol
Pravachol
Pravachol is an inhibitor called HMG CoA reductase inhibitor which is used to block the production of cholesterol in the body and it also work to reduce the amount of LDL cholesterol, total cholesterol, triglycerides, apolipoprotein B in the blood, which is very important to reduce the risk of hardening of the arteries which is a means of heart attacks, stroke and peripheral vascular diseases. Doctors also prescribe Pravachol for some other purposes.Whenever you have to take Pravachol, then first you should discuss with your doctor and if you have some medical condition, then you should inform your doctor before starting the treatment, because sometimes it can be risky for you. The medical conditions include liver disease, kidney disease, drink alcoholic beverages, chronic muscular disease or you have blood disorder. You should consult with your doctor if you have one of the above medical conditions because you are unable to take the medication or you require special monitoring during treatment. Pravachol comes in the FDA pregnancy category X which shows that it can cause birth defects if taken during pregnancy. So if you are pregnant or want to be pregnant then first tell your doctor. The medication can pass into breast milk and it may cause harm to nursing infant, so you should avoid taking Pravachol while breast-feeding a baby.
You should take the Pravachol according to the prescription of your doctor. Swallow the medication with a full glass of water. If you want to get greatest effect then you should take the medication at bedtime with evening meal and it can be taken several times a day, but you should strictly follow your doctor’s instruction. If you are taking Pravachol then you should adapt special diet like low-fat and low-cholesterol diet so that you can get best results from the medication. Take the medication on regular basis and you should not stop the medication without consulting your doctor. High cholesterol requires long term treatment so you have to take the medication on long term basis. Your doctor may tell about the blood tests or other medical evaluations during the treatment. Keep the medication at room temperature and away from moisture and heat.
If you miss the dose then you should take the medicine as soon as possible if you remember. If the time is near to next dose then skip the missed dose and go on next regular schedule. If you take overdose then you should seek emergency medical treatment. The symptoms of overdose include nausea, diarrhea, stomach disease and indigestion. If you are taking Pravachol, then you should avoid alcohol because both can damage your liver. If you have a habit of taking alcohol then you should discuss with your doctor.
You can experience the following possible side effects, like allergic reaction (including difficulty breathing, closing of the throat, and swelling of the lips, tongue or face), decreased urine or rust-colored urine or blurred vision. If you feel one of the above side effects, then you need emergency medical treatment. There are other less severe side effects, but it is not considered serious and you should continue your medication. These include gas, bloating, nausea, stomach upset, heartburn, abdominal pain, constipation or diarrhea, cough, headache, insomnia.
