Piroxicam
Piroxicam
Piroxicam belongs to a group of medicines, called nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. It functions to reduce hormones that cause inflammation and pain in the body. It is used in the treatment of pain or inflammation which is caused by arthritis. It may be used for other purposes. The risk of taking this medication can cause life-threatening heart or circulation problems like heart stroke or heart attack. Care should be taken if you ever had heart bypass surgery. Don’t use Piroxicam in that case. It can also create serious effect on your stomach or intestine which includes bleeding or perforation, which can be fatal. Gastrointestinal effects can occur at any time while taking the medication.You can get all information about Piroxicam from many sources. If you are allergic to Piroxicam or you have a history of allergic reaction to aspirin or other NSAIDs, then you should avoid taking the medication. If you have certain medical conditions, then you should discuss with your doctor. These medications may include heart disease, congestive heart failure, high blood pressure, history of heart attack, stroke or blood clot, history of kidney disease, liver disease, history of stomach ulcer, asthma, polyps in your nose, habit of smoking, bleeding, and blood clotting disorder. So if you have one of these conditions, then you are unable to use the medication or you need special tests during treatment.
You should go according to the advice of your doctor and don’t use greater amount of medication and take the medication longer than recommended by your doctor. If you want to use Piroxicam for a long time, then you should do your check up on regular basis. If you miss a dose then take it as you get remembered. If the time is near to next dose then skip the missed dose and follow your regular schedule of dose. If you feel that you have taken overdose of the medication then you should contact with your doctor and have emergency medical treatment. Symptoms of overdose may include nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, drowsiness, black or bloody stools, coughing up blood, shallow breathing, or fainting or coma.
You should have emergency medical help if you experience some signs of allergic reactions, like hives, difficulty breathing, and swelling of your face, lips, tongue or throat. You should stop to take the medication if you experience some of the following side effects like coughing up blood or vomit that seem coffee grounds, chest pain, weakness, shortness of breath, slurred speech, problems with vision, increased in weight rapidly, severe tingling, bruising, numbness, pain, muscles weakness, fever, headache, neck stiffness, chills, and increased sensitivity to light. You should continue your medication if you feel some less side effects like upset stomach, mild heartburn, diarrhea, constipation, bloating, gas, dizziness, headache, nervousness, skin itching or rash, blurred vision, ringing in ears.
You should tell the doctor if you are taking some of the following drugs because Piroxicam can interact with them. These drugs include warfarin, lithium, methotrexate, and diuretics like furosemide, steroids, aspirin or NSAIDs like etodolac, flurbiprofen, indomethacin, ketoprofen, ketorolac, and mefenamic acid.
