Pepcid
Pepcid belongs to a class of drugs, known as histamine receptor antagonists, and its function is to decrease the amount of acid in the stomach. It is also used to treat and prevent ulcers in the stomach and intestines. It is also used to control the condition in which stomach produces too much acid and the acid comes up into the esophagus and cause heartburn, like gastroesophageal reflux disease. Doctor can also suggest Pepcid for other purposes, not mentioned here.Before starting your treatment of Pepcid, first you should discuss with your doctor about other medical condition if you have, like kidney disease, liver disease, trouble or pain swallowing food, vomiting with blood etc. Therefore it will be little risky to take medicine if you have the medical condition which are listed above, If you need to take the medication then special monitoring of your doctor is required during the treatment. Pepcid RPD disintegrating tablet contains 1.05 mg phenylalanine per 20 mg tablet and 2.10 mg phenylalanine per 40 mg oral tablet and patient requires special care that which one should be taken. Pepcid comes in the FDA pregnancy category B which shows that it is not harmful to unborn baby, but you should consult with your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to be pregnant. Pepcid passes into milk of nursing mother. It is not known whether it is harmful to nursing infant or not, so you should discuss with your doctor and he will give better advice.
If you experience some serious side effects, you should stop the treatment and contact your doctor. The side effects include allergic reactions like difficulty breathing, closing of throat, swelling of the lips, unusual bruising or bleeding, bleeding gums, irregular heartbeat, yellowing of skin or eyes. There are some minor side effects, in which you can continue your treatment and discuss with your doctor. These include dizziness, headache, diarrhea, nausea, or constipation.
You should take your medication as prescribed by your doctor. You should take each oral dose with a full glass of water, and then chew the tablets before swallowing. If you have Pepcid suspension then first shake it vigorously for about 5 to 10 minutes and you should have a dose measuring cup or spoon. You should take the medication 15 minutes before eating the food and it you have to stop the medication then consult with your doctor.
Pepcid AC is used to treat the condition in which reduction of gastric secretion is required, like acid indigestion, heartburn, sour or upset stomach and it can also be used for the symptoms related with the consumption of food. Those people who have problems of kidney, history of ulcer disease or unintended weight loss, should consult the doctor before taking the medication. It is also possible that you experience some adverse effects like agitation, confusion, hallucinations, grand mal seizures, rare cases of impotence, thrombocytopenia, pancytopenia, leucopenia and agranulocytosis. You should keep the medication at room temperature and away from heat and moisture.
