Ovral

The general name of Ovral is ethinyl estradiol and norgestrel. It contains a combination of female hormones which functions to prevent ovulation and it also make changes in your cervical mucous and uterine lining, which make difficult for sperm to reach the uterus and the fertilized egg cannot attach to the uterus. It is used to prevent pregnancy and it is also used for other purposes. This medication can create problems for you like causing of birth defects. Those women who are pregnant should avoid taking Ovral. You should tell your doctor if you are pregnant, if you have missed two menstrual periods, or if you have recently given birth to a baby.

You should not take Ovral if you have history of blood clot, circulation problems, hormone related cancer like breast or uterine cancer, abnormal vaginal bleeding, severe migraine headache, history of jaundice, liver disease, severe high blood pressure, heart valve disorder. There are some medical conditions, which should be told to doctor. These conditions may include high blood pressure, angina, history of heart attack, congestive heart failure, heart disease, high cholesterol, history of depression, gallbladder disease, diabetes, seizures, history of irregular menstrual cycles, a history of fibrocystic breast disease, lumps and nodules. This medication makes slow the production of milk of a nursing mother.



You should take the medication according to the prescription of your doctor, and take large amount of it. You may use back-up birth control like condom or a spermicide. One pack contains 28-days birth pills in which seven are reminder pills in order to keep you on regular cycle. You can experience problem of bleeding during the first three months, and if it continues then you should consult with your doctor. You should take one pill on daily basis and the gap should not be greater than 24 hours.

You can experience some side effects like sudden numbness, weakness, especially on one side of the body, severity of migraine headaches, nauseam, stomach pain, low fever, dark urine, loss of appetite, jaundice, breast lump, symptoms of depression, chest pain, heavy feeling, pain spreading to the arm or shoulder, sweating, general ill feeling, sudden headache, confusion, pain behind the eyes, problems with vision, speech or balance. If you experience the side effects listed above, then you should stop the medication. There are some other minor side effects. If they occur, then continue your medication and they will go away with the time. These side effects include mild nausea, vomiting, bloating, stomach cramps, changes in menstrual periods, decreased sex drive, nervousness, dizziness, tired feeling, vaginal itching or discharge, increased in hair growth, lose of scalp hair etc.

There are some drugs which can make the birth control pills less effective and it is also possible that you become pregnant. So it is necessary that you tell to your doctor about the drugs which you are using. These drugs include acetaminophen, modafinil, dexamethasone, antibiotics like amoxicillin, ampicillin, doxycycline, seizures medicines like phenytoin etc. You should take the dose as prescribed to you by your doctor and always keep the medicine at room temperature and away from heat and moisture.
