Norvasc
Norvasc
The general name of Norvasc is amlodipine and it belongs to a class of drugs which is called calcium channel blockers. Its function is to relax the blood vessels by widening the veins and arteries so that the heart can easily work and the load on the heart gets reduced. Norvasc is used in the treatment of hypertension and angina, and doctors can suggest Norvasc for other reasons too. Before taking Norvasc, you should tell your doctor all the medical conditions if you have liver disease or disease of heart or blood vessel like sick sinus syndrome, aortic stenosis, heart failure, low blood pressure or coronary artery disease. In these cases, you must inform your doctor because it can be dangerous for you to use Norvasc in these conditions or special monitoring is required in the treatment.Norvasc come in the FDA pregnancy category C so it is unknown whether it is harmful to unborn baby or not. You should consult with your doctor, if you are going to be pregnant then tell your doctor. It is not known that Norvasc can pass into breast milk or not, so if you are feeding milk to your baby then you should talk with your doctor. The medication can show its side effects if a patient is more than 65 years of age. You have to take the medication according to the prescription of your doctor and take each dose of medication with a full glass of water. You should not stop the medication without the permission of your doctor, even if you feel better because it may be possible that if you abandon the medication, your condition could become worse. Always keep your medication at room temperature and place it away from moisture and heat.
If you miss the dose, then you should take dose as soon as you get remembered. If the time is near to the next dose, then you should leave the missed one and follow you regular schedule of dose and don’t take double dose at a time. If you take overdose, then you should consult your doctor. The symptoms of overdose include dizziness, weakness, and chest pain, shortness of breath, fainting, irregular heartbeat, coma, slurred speech, and confusion. You should follow the recommendations of your doctor about your exercise or diet in the treament.
If you experience the following side effects, then you should seek emergency medical treatment. The side effects are allergic reactions, irregular heartbeat, chest pain, severe dizziness, psychosis, jaundice and swelling of legs or ankles. There are some other minor side effects which are not considered serious and you should continue your medication. The minor side effects are fatigue or tiredness, headache, insomnia, abnormal dreams, flushing, abdominal pain, nausea, diarrhea or constipation or difficult urination.
Norvasc comes in 2.5 mg-white with diamond shape and flat-faced edges tablets. The second tablet comes in 5 mg-white with elongated octagonal shape. Norvasc also comes in 10 mg-white with round flat-faced. Keep the medicine out of reach of children and store the medicine at room temperature and keep it away from moisture and heat.
