Neurontin
Neurontin is used to generate its effect on the chemicals and nerves in the body which are responsible to cause seizures and some type of pain. Such pains are caused by herpes virus or shingles. Neurontin is also used for other purposes which are not listed in the medication guide. Neurontin has major two uses. First for seizures and secondly, it is used to relieve nerve pain which is persisted for months and it may be extend to a year. If you want to control your seizures effectively, then you should take Neurontin three times a day and the gap between the doses should not be greater than 12 hours.You should tell your doctor if you have other medical conditions, like kidney, liver or heart diseases, and also tell the doctor about the medicine which you are taking. Neurontin comes in the FDA pregnancy category C. Doctor should be informed if you are pregnant or are going to be pregnant. Neurontin passes into breast milk so tell the doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby.
If you have to take Neurontin, then you should first consult with your doctor. You should take a dose of Neurontin with a full glass of water. Neurontin can be taken with food or without food and you must be sure that you are taking the correct dose. There is a dose-measuring cup or spoon which can be used to measure the Neurontin oral solution. If you have no such spoon, then ask from pharmacist about the availability of the spoon. You should put a tag on the medication so that other people know that you are taking this medicine. Whenever you have to stop Neurontin, then you should ask from your doctor because the sudden stop of Neurontin will cause some side effects. If you are using Neurontin against seizures, then you should not stop the medication until you feel better and the desired result is obtained.
You must keep the tablets and capsules of Neurontin at room temperature and keep away from moisture and heat, while Neurontin oral solution should be placed in the refrigerator. If you miss a dose then take it as soon as possible, when you remember. If several hours have passed and the time is near to the next dose, then leave the missed dose and take the scheduled dose.
There may be some serious side effects and if you experience such side effects, then you should stop taking Neurontin and ask your doctor. It may cause allergic reaction like difficult breathing, closing of throat, swelling of lips, tongue or face. Other minor side effects may occur, but there is no need to fear and you continue to take Neurontin and consult with your doctor. The side effects are dizziness, poor coordination or drowsiness, blurred, irregular back and forth movements of eyes, nausea, vomiting, and tremor. If children of age from 3 to 12 years experience side effects like emotional lability, hostility, restlessness, hyperactivity or increase in body movement, then consult with your doctor.
