Nasonex

Nasonex is a topical glucocorticosteroid and possesses anti-inflammatory properties. It is used to direct as a nasal spray with systemic bioavailability and it is undetectable in plasma. It is poorly absorbed in gastrointestinal tract and if it is swallowed, extensive metabolism occurs before excretion in urine. It is directed to be used by adults, adolescents and children of 3 to 11 years age, in order to treat seasonal or perennial allergic rhinitis.

If the patients have quiescent tuberculous infections of respiratory tract, or systemic viral infections, then consult with your health professional before using Nasonex. Patients should be informed that Nasonex should be avoided if there is untreated localized infection involving the nasal mucosa. The corticosteroids can inhabit the wound healing so care should be taken if patients have experienced nasal surgery or trauma. They should avoid the medication until the wound is healed completely.



If you are using Nasonex for a long time, then you should observe the changes in nasal mucosa, and if there is a localized fungal infection of the nose then discontinue the Nasonex nasal spray. Persistent nasopharyngeal irritation will show that you should be away from Nasonex nasal spray. There is no evidence of hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal, if you use Nasonex nasal spray for a long time. Patients, who are transferred from corticosteroids to Nasonex nasal spray, require more attention because the withdrawal of corticosteroids may cause the patients to be adrenal for sometime until the recovery of HPA axis function. After this, if they show signs of adrenal insufficiency then it should resume systemic corticosteroids.

Nasonex nasal spray is preferred medication for preventing and relieving the runny and stuffy nose that accompanies hay fever and year-round allergies. Nasonex contains special steroid medication which is capable to fight against inflammation. Allergies require long term treatment and they are not cured immediately. Nasonex show its effect after 2 to 3 days, and you must use the spray on regular basis. If want to get maximum benefit, you should continue the medication for 1 to 2 weeks. If you have the problem of hay fever then you should start Nasonex 2 to 4 weeks before the beginning of pollen season.

You should make a schedule for taking Nasonex on regular basis and always keep the same time and do not use more than what is prescribed to you by your doctor. Shake the bottle well before using. Enter the nasal applicator into the other nostril. Breathe inward through your nostril then breathe outward through your mouth and do the same with the other nostril. If you forget to take your dose then take it as soon as you remember and keep a gap for your next dose. You must avoid two doses at the same time. You should store the Nasonex nasal spray in the cool place and avoid exposing to sunlight.
