Naproxen

Naproxen is used for the people who have pain, tenderness, swelling and stiffness, which is caused by osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, juvenile arthritis and ankylosing spondylitis. Osteoarthritis is the breakdown of lining of the joints. Rheumatoid arthritis is happened due to the swelling of the lining of the joints, and juvenile arthritis is a form of joint disease which is present in children. Ankylosing spondylitis affects the spine. You can also use naproxen tablets, extended-release tablets and suspension to reduce the shoulder pain which is usually caused by bursitis, tendinits, and gouty arthritis. Naproxen is taken in mild pain of headache, muscle aches, menstrual periods, common cold, toothache and backache. Naproxen come in the class of medications, called NSAIDs which stop the production of a substance which is a source of causing pain, fever and inflammation.

Naproxen is available in the market as regular tablet, enteric coated tablet, extended release tablet and a suspension which are taken by mouth. The usage of these tablets is different. If you are taking extended-release tablets, you should take it once a day, while enteric coated tablets and suspension are taken twice a day. Naproxen tablets and suspension are taken after every eight hours. If you are taking it on regular basis then take it at the same time everyday. The nonprescription naproxen is available in tablets and a gelatin coated tablets, which should be taken with one full glass of water to swallow naproxen. You can also take it with food or milk to avoid any stomach upset.



Naproxen is also used to treat other diseases, like Paget’s disease, bartter’s syndrome. Paget is a disease of bone in which the bones get abnormally thick, fragile and misshapen. Barter syndrome is a condition in which the body is not capable to absorb enough potassium which results in muscle cramping and weakness. It is better to consult with your doctor about the risk of taking naproxen in this condition.

There are some precautions which should be followed while taking naproxen. Inform your doctor if you are allergic to naproxen, aspirin or other NSAIDs, like ibuprofen or other medicines which are used for pain or fever. You should tell your doctor what prescription and nonprescription medications, vitamins, nutritional supplements you can take. You should have the full list of all the medicines which are forbidden and which you are allowed to take. You should not take nonprescription naproxen with other medicines, especially for pain until your doctor does not suggest you. You should tell your doctor if you are on low sodium diet or you have experienced any condition which is listed in your important warning section. If you are pregnant, if you are in your last days of your pregnancy, or you are doing breast feeding, then describe the whole story before your doctor in order to have a perfect advice. Sometimes, naproxen can cause dizziness so avoid such activities in which you need to be active.
