Mevacor

To block the ability of body of making cholesterol, Mevacor is used. It can also help to those patients who have lower cholesterol and they are at risk of getting heart disease or a stroke. This drug is for those who cannot control their cholesterol by their diet. It should be in mind that it is not a cure and this drug is available in form of tablet. Before using Mevacor, the doctor must has information about the health of the patient, and he should investigate about alcohol problem, hormone disorder, diabetes, under-active thyroid, blood salt imbalance, infection, kidney disease, liver disease, low blood pressure, muscle disorder, severe injury, seizures, recent surgery, unusual or allergic reaction to Mevacor, pregnant or trying to get pregnant, and breast-feeding in the patient.

The tablet of Mevacor is taken with food and once a day at evening. It is not recommended to take Mevacor with grapefruit juice or orange juice. The patient should follow on the instructions which are labeled on the pack of the tablets or for more instruction, just ask to the health care provider. It has been seen that many patients take double dose when they miss one dose for any reason. This is strongly condemned and is advised if one dose gets missed, then there is not need to take double dose.



Mevacor interferences with some products, like clarithromycin, erythromycin, grapefruit juice, itraconazole, atazanavir, delavirdine, amprenavir, nelfinavir, ketoconazole, indinavir , troleandomycin, saquinavir, red yeast rice, ritonavir, lopinavir, nefazodone, mibefradil, ritonavir, alcohol, amiodarone, bosentan, fluconazole, cilostazol, diltiazem, barbiturates, Phenobarbital, primidone, butalbital, imatinib, STI-571, efavirenz, cyclosporine, carbamazepine, danazol, isradipine, triglycerides, clofibrate, gemfibrozil, niacin, fenofibrate, nicardipine, oxcarbazepine, rifampin, rifapentine, St. John's Wort, verapamil, warfarin, voriconazole, rifabutin, phenytoin, telithromycin, and mifepristone, RU-486, medicine used to stop early pregnancy, . If the patient is using anyone from above listed drugs, then there is not need to continue Mevacor. If the patient is taking non-prescription medicines, herbal medicines, or nutritional supplements then also inform to doctor.

There are many side effects of Mevacor and if the patient feels any of these, then he should inform the doctor. These side effects include blurred vision, brown urine, vision changes, dark yellow, decreased urination, difficulty passing urine, fever, muscle pain, weakness, cramps, tenderness, skin rash, yellowing of the skin or eyes, itching, unusual tiredness or weakness, redness, loosening of the skin including inside the mouth, blistering, diarrhea, constipation, dizziness, difficulty sleeping, vomiting, headache, stomach pain or indigestion and peeling.

During taking the Mevacor, make possible to visit regularly the doctor for informing the status or progress of the patient and ask to doctor about liver function for making sure the working of the liver is normal. If the patient feels unexpected pain then immediately inform the doctor and take medical assistance for curing the pain. This medicine cannot be given to the children. Keep the Mevacor at room temperature and at dry place and make sure that Mevacor is not out of date.
