Methotrexate

Methotrexate is being used for the treatment of breast cancer, skin, neck, head or lungs. It is also used for curing the rheumatoid arthritis psoriasis. The main function of Methotrexate is to make possible to reduce reproduction of cells, such as bone marrow cells, skin cells, and cancer cells, and for this purpose it interferences to these cells.

There are many disadvantages of Methotrexate. Among them, some include the stroke of liver, lungs, kidneys, and bone marrow or immune system. It is strongly not recommended to take larger amount of this medicine. Methotrexate is not recommended in the case if the patient has any liver disorder, breasting feeding to an infant or baby, the patient in the pregnancy, or bone marrow disorder. If the patient wants to be pregnant then she should have to tell to doctor before using of Methotrexate. It is important because it can harm the unborn baby.

During the treatment with Methotrexate, the patient has to test his blood on regular bases for kidney and liver tests. First priority should be that, not to use any other medicines during treatment with Methotrexate and if there is need to use, then inform and consult the doctor for further information and assistant, either to continue or to leave Methotrexate with other medicines.



If the patient has any allergy then it is warmly recommended not to use Methotrexate. It should not also be used for the treatment of psoriasis and rheumatoid, if the patient has any liver disease, alcoholism, cirrhosis of the liver, blood cell illness, bone marrow disorder, anemia, leucopenia, and breast feeding mother to child. If the patient is already using any allergy medicines then he should inform the doctor about these medicines. Particularly, he should inform the doctor about kidney disease, liver disease, lung diseases, including pneumonia, stomach ulcers, any type of infection and any radiation treatment. Having anyone of these diseases, the patient is not capable to use Methotrexate. It is prescribed to use a good birth control during the treatment with Methotrexate. For men, it is recommended to use condoms to prevent any cause of pregnancy. A period of 90 days is advised to use condoms after the treatment with Methotrexate. For women, it is recommended to use birth control for the period of at least one cycle.

Children are not prescribed to use this medicine, and keep it away from the children. Keep the Methotrexate away from sunshine and store it at room temperature. There is not need for overdose, in case if any dose misses and keep track on normal medicine taking according to the doctor. It is stopped, because it creates many problems, if the patient takes overdose. If the patient takes overdose, some of reactions include pale skin, bleeding, bruising, unusual weakness, mouth sores, vomiting, nausea, bloody stool or black stool, coughing up blood, and stopping of urine.

There are many possible side effects of Methotrexate and these are shortness of breath, diarrhea, dry cough, vomiting, white patches, sores inside your mouth or on your lips, blood in your urine or stools, body aches, chills, flu symptoms, fever, sore throat and headache with a severe blistering, red skin rash, peeling, pale skin, weakness, nausea, dark urine, jaundice, stomach pain, low fever, clay-colored stools and loss of appetite.
