Lotensin
Lotensin
The generic name of Lotensin is benazepril. The Lotensin is available for the treatment of high blood pressure. The Lotensin alone is very effective, but when it combines with thiazide diuretics, it becomes more effective. It is a part of drugs known as ACE inhibitor. The ACE is the abbreviation of Angiotensin Converting Enzyme. The treatment of Lotensin is not only available for adults, but children from 7 to 17 year old can take the medicine. The Lotensin is not a beta-blocker, but its purpose is to control the high blood pressure. Lotensin is available in the form of tablets. It is available with strengths, such as 5 mg light yellow tablet in color with round shape, 10 mg dark yellow tablet with round shape, 20 mg tan tablet with round shape and 40 mg with dark- rose in color with round shape. You can take Lotensin with full or empty stomach. Make a habit to drink 6 or 8 glass of water while using Lotensin. If you forget to take your dose, then you don’t need to double your dose. By the time, you might be near to next dose so skip to the next dose.Before using Lotensin, you need to consult the doctor, because you might be allergic to Lotensin and angiotensin ACE. There are some diseases such as kidney, liver, heart; diabetes and lupus in which you cannot take Lotensin treatment. If it is important for you to take Lotensin, then doctor can adjust your dose and you need to take special test during treatment. The side effects of Lotensin can lead to allergic reaction, hives, severe stomach pain, difficulty in breathing, and swelling on your face, lips, tongue and throat. In these situations, you need medical help. You might face some serious side effects of Lotensin, such as chest pain, rapid weight gain, and fever, jaundice, and flu symptoms. If these side effects aggravate, you need to consult doctor. The mild side effects of Lotensin are cough, dizziness, headaches, nausea and mild skin itching or rashes. If by mistake you do overdose of Lotensin, then you can feel symptoms of overdose. The overdose symptoms of Lotensin are dizziness and fainting. In most ACE drugs, dry cough occurs which vanish slowly and gradually when dose is started low. While using Lotensin, what you need to avoid is alcohol, because it will help to enhance the side effects of Lotensin. Besides this, avoid taking salt substitutes and potassium supplements when you are using Lotensin.
Sometimes people use herbs for some normal and serious diseases. Make sure when you are taking Lotensin, you are not using any herbs because it will not improve your condition, and in fact it will harm you. You can’t replace Lotensin with any herbs such as Hawthorn or any other herbs. On the other hand, if you are using ibuprofen then you can’t use Lotensin. The side effects of ibuprofen can cause strokes and heart attacks. If it is important to use both medicines, then you need to consult doctor. He can adjust your dose and keep you under observation during the treatment.
