Lorazepam

The generic name is Lorazepam and it is available under the brand name Ativan. The Lorazepam is the part of drugs called benzodiazepines. It is used for the treatment of anxiety disorder. The purpose of the Lorazepam is to balance the chemicals of the brain, which create anxiety disorder. The dosage of the Lorazepam is for a short period and it should not extend more than 4 month. It is available in the form of tablets with different strength, such as 0.5 mg, 1 mg and 2 mg with five sides and it is white in color. It is also available in the form of injections and concentrated liquid. Take concentrate in 1 ounce with more water, juice and carbonated beverages. If you are taking liquid form of Lorazepam, then make sure that you are using proper measuring spoon or cup. If you don’t have these measuring devices, then you can buy them from pharmacy. Whenever you want to start Lorazepam, you need to consult doctor, because you might be allergic to Lorazepam or other benzodiazepines. Even if you have any other problem related to the health, such as kidney, liver, glaucoma, breathing problem, history of depression, suicidal thoughts and addiction to drugs or alcohol, you should consult the doctor. If you forget to take your dose, try to take it as soon as possible, otherwise you don’t need to take double dose. Sometime we take medicine in extra or larger quantity by mistake. In that case, one can face overdose symptoms. The overdose symptoms are extreme drowsiness, confusion, muscle weakness, fainting or even coma. In these conditions, you need immediate medical help. This medicine is not suitable for children younger than 12 year. If you want to quit the medicine, you need to reduce the dose slowly and gradually. If you stop taking your medicine, then you can face withdrawal symptoms.

The withdrawal symptoms are tremor, sweating, muscle cramps, stomach pain, vomiting, unusual thoughts or behavior and seizure. The other side effects of Lorazepam are allergic reaction, hives, swallowing on the face, throat, lips and tongue. Beside these side effects confusion, depressed mood thought of suicide or hurting yourself, hyperactivity, hallucinations and fainting can occur. In all these situations you need medical help. This medicine is not suitable for pregnant women, because it can cause birth defect to your unborn baby.
