Lopid

The generic name of Lopid is gemfibrozil. The purpose of the Lopid is to control your cholesterol level. The treatment of Lopid is available for the people who have the problem of fatty substance in their blood. The high cholesterol can develop a problem of pancreatitis, but Lopid can prevent it. When your diet, exercise and weight loss is not working to control your cholesterol level, then Lopid is prescribed. It is also useful for reducing the risk of coronary heart diseases.

The Lopid is available in the form of tablet and you need to take medicine twice a day. Make sure that you are taking tablet 30 minute before the morning and evening meal. You need to continue your medicine even if you are feeling good, because the purpose of Lopid is to control your cholesterol and triglycerides not to completely cure. It will take at least 3 months for improvement. Lopid is not available for children. If you forget to take your dose, then have it as soon as possible but you don’t need to take double dose. Avoid taking any other medicine, which is used for controlling cholesterol with lopid, because it will harm you seriously. If you are taking any other cholesterol-lower drugs, such as statins or zocor, then avoid combining Lopid with these drugs because it will show reaction to you. The combinations of these drugs may affect you in the form of muscle-wasting. You can find different varieties of drugs, which are available for controlling your high cholesterol, like tricor. It is a medicine, which is also used for controlling high cholesterol as Lopid. It is your doctor’s choice whether he prescribes you lopid or tricor. The pregnant women need to consult doctor and breast-feeding mother might need to avoid feeding till lopid treatment is not complete. According to the clinical research studies, people taking Lopid 900 mg -1600 mg daily, reduce triglycerides by 20 to 50 percent.

The side effects of Lopid is stomach pain, eczema, acute appendicitis, headache and heartburn are common side effects. Along with these side effects, you can face some serious side effects, such as muscle pain, tenderness, weakness and blurred vision. In these conditions, you need medical help. On the other hand, if you are facing side effects such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, joint or muscle pain, stomach cramps or collapse and your breathing is not proper, then they are overdose symptoms. For this, you need to contact your local poison control centre and call emergency service for help. When you start taking Lopid, your doctor need that your weight should not be over than normal, and you are not taking alcohol. You need to take a controlled diet. Do exercise regularly and try to control weight so your high cholesterol can be controlled.
