Hyzaar
Hydrochlorothiazide is a thiazide diuretic (water pill) that helps to prevent your body from absorbing too much salt, which can cause fluid retention. Hyzaar is a medication used in the treatment of high blood pressure. Its one component, losartan, belongs to a new class of blood pressure medications that work by preventing the hormone angiotensin II from constricting the blood vessels, thus allowing blood to flow more freely and keeping the blood pressure down. The other component, hydrochlorothiazide, is a diuretic that increases the output of urine, removing excess fluid from the body and thus lowering blood pressure. Extensive clinical trials have evaluated thousands of people worldwide, who were taking Hyzaar. In these studies, side effects are always documented and compared to side effects that occur in a similar group of people not taking the medicine. Based on these studies, the most common Hyzaar side effects include: unexplained skin rash, blisters, itching, swelling of the head or neck, wheezing, dry mouth, weakness, tiredness and some more. It is possible that you may experience some or none of the Hyzaar side effects explained above. Unfortunately, there is no way for your healthcare provider to know beforehand, if you will have side effects from a medicine that you have never tried. Therefore, make sure to let your healthcare provider know if you develop any side effects. Hyzaar can cause low blood pressure, especially if you are also taking another diuretic.
You may feel light-headed or faint, especially during the first few days of therapy. If these symptoms occur, contact your doctor. Your dosage may need to be adjusted or discontinued. If you actually faint, stop taking the medication until you have talked to your doctor. Hyzaar is a prescription medication that has been licensed to treat high blood pressure (hypertension).
